Welcome to our bolthole in Devon

Welcome to The Old Coach House, our delightful country cottage in the beautiful Devon village of Iddesleigh, perfect for romantic getaways and a base to explore beautiful Devon.

Entwined in Iddesleigh’s long history, you will find The Old Coach House a warm and welcoming holiday cottage. Just a short stroll from the famous Duke of York pub, the cottage is in the very centre of War Horse country with stunning views and fabulous walks through unspoilt countryside right from the doorstep, as well as making it an idyllic base to explore nearby Dartmoor National Park.

The main accommodation is largely on one single level with one room leading through to another however there is also a spiral staircase to a charming mezzanine area in the eaves. We have put two futon beds up there to create a relaxed space or as a bedroom for children.

A wonderful wood-burning stove installed in the cottage’s original fireplace makes The Old Coach House a super place to stay all year round.

We are dog-friendly so one is welcome to make the most of this idyllic part of Devon. On a clear day you will have glimpses of Dartmoor in the distance tempting you to visit its wild moorland and unique granite tors. If you simply want to stay put, watching village life around you, there is a small seating-area just outside the cottage. Set right on the edge of the village green, we hope that you will enjoy this space as your ‘garden’ too.

Best regards Mark & Elaine

History

The House was originally the Coach House for nearby Ash House allowing the gentry to park their carriages whilst they attended St James Church.

Following the demise of horse drawn carriages The Old Coach House became a store and garage for a local resident. The building was later converted into the residence you see today.

The Water Pump at the side of the cottage was once the water supply for the whole village, it is listed and owned by the Parish Council.
